Ongoing project

Brief description

The project brings together 6 partners (2 from Germany, 1 from Hungary, 1 from Turkey, 1 from Slovenia and 1 from Italy) to prepare a specific training to respond to antidemocratic slogans and discourse. The training material will be freely accessible through a curriculum, a handbook, and an online self-learning tool (comic self-reflection stories).

The project outputs will be the result of the update of Klaus-Peter Hufer’s method “Argumentationstraining gegen Stammtischparolen” (Argumentation against populist slogans, widely used in Citizenship Education in Germany, Austria and Switzerland) in a European sense: the partners will make a European version of the training, by enriching it with Europe-specific topics, methods and inputs from the European partners. One of the partners is the University of Augsburg, where Klaus-Peter Hufer developed the training.

The project targets groups who are victims of verbal (and physical) attacks through populist, extremist, sexist and stereotypical arguments (migrants, Jews, people with disabilities, women, disadvantaged people, queer people) as well as topics that have become particularly relevant in recent years and are the focus of radical, verbal attacks and hate speech. These topics include: democracy and Europe, gender, climate change, sexual orientation and equality, science/health (vaccination), fake news and migration, war and humanism.

The material will serve as a basis for workshops and trainings conducted in the youth and school context, by educational institutions targeting youth. It will consider situations in the family and among friends, in public spaces and in leisure time, at school, in (political) discussions, in voluntary social or political engagement. There will also be a special focus on discussion forums in online media, especially in social networks.

What is Argumentationstraining gegen Stammtischparolen?

Stammtischparolen are populist statements and slogans with which numerous groups of people (often social minorities, but also representatives of the “elites”) are discriminated against. Usually, they are also directed against “the” European policy. These slogans are dogmatic, rigid and prejudice-based: in these speeches, there are very strict categories (“we” and “they”), which defend their positions aggressively and with an exclusionary attitude.

Professor Dr. Klaus-Peter Hufer is a trainer, a lecturer, an author and scientist. He himself works as an adult educator and as an applied professor. His Argumentation training* teaches effective techniques and tricks for responding to populist slogans in conversations (e.g. with facts, irony, critical inquiries, etc.). In its interactive form, the argumentation training offers the opportunity to try out and experience in exchange with the seminar group how to react appropriately to such slogans.

Hufer’s training have been frequently used in educational work for many years, also in youth education or in training for employees and volunteers of NGOs and other institutions, parties, companies, schools and organizations.

* Klaus-Peter Hufer: Argumentationstraining gegen Stammtischparolen. Materialien und Anleitungen für Bildungsarbeit und Selbstlernen. 10.  Auflage 2018, 120 Seiten, Wochenschau-Verlag, Frankfurt am Main

Target groups

The target group of the workshops is primarily politically and socially interested and active young people from 13 to 30, who are to be strengthened in their civil courage in order to take effective action against radical arguments in everyday life online or in personal discussions.

Moreover, the project targets are:

  • Teachers/trainers in schools and youth (education) centres
  • Politically engaged young people
  • Activists and volunteers in youth movements / political parties
  • Employees of NGOs, initiatives, civil rights movements, with focus on youth
  • Stakeholders, scientists, politicians
  • General public

Objectives

  • Identifying and implementing core European values
  • Development of a training programme (curriculum) to train young people to argue effectively in discussions (offline and online) against anti-European statements.
  • Developing methods for raising awareness and communicating European values, through the collection and integration of proven methods for argumentation training and comparable approaches.
  • Defending fundamental values and rights.
  • Recognising violations of fundamental values, by developing methods to identify anti-European values, especially in oral discussion and dialogue situations and in the digital space.
  • Encouraging reflection on one’s own commitment to fundamental values and avoid using stereotypical arguments and behaviour.
  • Use stories/scenarios with a high identification potential to question and evaluate one’s own behaviour.

Program and call for proposalsCreative Europe – Culture Section, Culture Cooperation Band 2021

Lead partner: Artisti Drama (Italy)

Short description

The project responds to marginalization problems and social discomfort among young europeans, activating their participation in the process of artistic creation through the use of performing arts as a means of relationship and confrontation and multimedia language as a means of breaking down geographical boundaries and the sense of isolation created in the new pandemic situation.

Project objectives

  • to fight against the social marginalization of kids involving them in the co-creative process. This purpose couldn’t be effectively addressed without an approach based on the EU strategy of equality, a crucial element of the project.
  • innovate the European performing arts sector by rethinking the dialogue between artists and audience, shaping the audience of the future. In particular, the involvement of teenagers is crucial for innovation, as it is they who dictate the line of digital evolution and sensitivity to art. The general idea is therefore to give young people an active role in the creation process, so that they can be an active and also aware and competent audience in the performing arts sector. An attempt will be made to reach the widest range of young people, through the engagement of secondary schools in each territory.
  • reflect and work on the theme of the “end of the world”, a very evocative and binding concept in this time, wants to be a vehicle for deep reflections binding about the social differences, such as the lack of rights, the marginalization, the lack of direct participation at social manners. In the PANG project, all young people from disadvantaged backgrounds will be involved in the first place, for economic, social and personal reasons. Through this project, groups at risk of social exclusion will have the possibility of participating actively in the cultural life of their country.

Project activities

The project will perform in Modena (IT), Almada (PT), Lubiana (SI), Tallinn (EE) with a national and transnational scope. PANG faces the paneuropean question of the active participation of young people at the creative and cultural process, involving them either as public and co-creators of creative contents through work done directly with artists.

The activities of the project will be in line with and complementary to the activities already implemented by the organizations, since all partners already organize workshops with different target groups, work with young people in different projects and are very active in production and coproduction of artistic works.

Name of the projectArchitecture and Remembrance: the discrimination of architects in Nazi-fascist regimes

Acronym: ARCH MEM

Ongoing project

Lead partner: FOUNDATION OF THE ORDER OF ARCHITECTS LANDSCAPE PLANNERS AND CONSERVATORS OF THE PROVINCE OF MILAN (FOAMI)

Short description

The project intends to recover and enhance the memory of the architects who couldn’t do their job due to discriminatory measures adopted during the nazifascist regimes in Italy, Central Europe and other different countries, sensibilitating either the professional community and the public.

Project goals:

  • to encourage the resource in the intern archives and to stimulate the production of output that can translate for different public information, stories and results of storical and architectonic research target’s.
  • to understand, thanks to a specific research focus, more precisely the dynamics and consequences of Nazi-fascist regimes within a broader framework of historical events, illuminating a hitherto insufficiently investigated piece of history.

Project activities

After an operational project kick-off meeting between the partners, the work method will be supported by research conducted within professional associations, libraries and entities related to Jewish culture.

The situation of the research of the jewish architects and engineering persecution in the second half of the years ‘30 and during the years of the WW2 is incomplete, despite the fact that the number of professionals involved and their level of quality are quite high both in Italy and in Europe. The research proposed by the CDEC partner wants to examine public archives, the ones of the professional orders involved and the historiographical literature that has dealt inorganically with this issue. So far the topic has been treated with limited studies and commemorative works, which will certainly be taken into account. The proposed research will be conducted using the historical method and will make use of the collaboration and the synergy of all the agencies and institutes that have so far dealt with the persecution of Jews in Europe.

Finally they will be realized: a video-documentary, an exhibition about architects affected by discriminatory acts, a graphic novel, and a publication.

UNLOCK THE CITY!

Theatre as tool for post pandemic sustainable transformation of the European urban landscape

Programme and call

Creative Europe Programme, Culture strand – CREA-CULT-2022-COOP call for medium-scale cooperation projects.

Open project

Brief description

UNLOCK THE CITY! is a culture-driven regeneration project that aims to develop an integrated working method that combines technical-scientific and design-oriented research with theatrical practice, the latter being used as a tool to trigger sustainable development processes in the post-pandemic city.

By operating in places or areas that played a key role for citizenship during the Coronavirus pandemic, the project explores the concept of limit (economic, social, physical, etc.) in the intra and post-pandemic city, on 3 different levels: building (Object), community (Subject), relationship between urban area and theater (Relation).

Ineuropa srl supports FONDAZIONE PICCOLO TEATRO MILANO in the project development and in the overall management and reporting activity.

Objectives

  • to activate processes of urban regeneration guided by culture through the creation of theatrical performances that experience the creative reuse of spaces and environments in 4 European cities, promoting the habitability, accessibility and sustainability of places;
  • to encourage the active participation of different urban subjects (local groups and associations, citizens, students, professionals) in promoting community empowerment through cultural regeneration;
  • to promote integration, international collaboration between artistic-theatrical practices and awareness of urban contexts for academic figures;
  • to promote the dissemination of the experience through an outreach strategy aimed at institutions and the population.

Actions

The project develops surveys on the territory focused on the study of the landscape in the post-pandemic city and preparatory to the creation and realization of 12 theater performances entrusted to several European artists. These activities are linked and implemented by workshops and thematic training courses for university students and contribute to generating qualitative and perceptive growth in terms of habitability, accessibility and sustainability of urban spaces, with particular reference to 4 European cities: Milan, Antwerp, Barcelona, Piatra Neamt. Capillary communication and dissemination actions support the project throughout its duration.

Results

The main expected results are:

  • increasing international cooperation between theatrical and academic institutions;
  • the creativity of artists is put at the service of our communities for their well-being;
  • creation of connections, communication, dialogue and exchange between different stakeholders: academic institutions, students, local communities, local administrators, general public;
  • specific survey on our European cities to identify the criticalities of the places and their possibilities for sustainable development after the pandemic experience;
  • an innovative cultural approach to the regeneration of urban spaces, starting from the 4 cities involved in the project.

Free man Walking – theatre as a tool for detainees’ integration

Programme and call

Creative Europe, CULTURE Sub-programme, Cultural cooperation projects – Call 2019

Short description

The project was conceived by 4 European organisations that share the problems and needs related to the art of making theatre in prison with detainees, aiming to improve the effectiveness, feasibility and sustainability of theatre work in prisons, as a means of social and personal rehabilitation for detainees and addressing the problems that hinder the implementation of theatre activities in this context. The aim is to strengthen the skills of cultural operators who manage prison theatre. This will result in better organised and more effective theatre work with prisoners and facilitate their rehabilitation and integration upon release.

Theatrical experience is introduced into prisons, also in accordance with the provisions of various national laws, as an activity of socialization and education, as an alternative measure to the punishment that allows detainees to leave and constitutes a rehabilitation activity for detainees led by experts from civil society.

The practice of theatre with prisoners acquires a specific and relevant meaning, which belongs not only to the artistic field but also to the fields of social, integration, inclusion and rehabilitation and can therefore have a positive impact on the whole society.

Two different perspectives coexist in prison theatre, complementary in their results: on the one hand, the prison perspective, which considers theatre activities as rehabilitation, a direct intervention in support of the human, cultural and professional interests of prisoners in order to encourage their constructive social participation. On the other hand, the perspective of theatrical research, which discovers an extraordinary potential of languages, stories, attitudes and personal resources in the context of imprisonment.

The impact of such activities can have an impact on society as a whole, for the reintegration and inclusion of former prisoners and to combat the processes of marginalisation.

Objectives

– Strengthen and strengthen the capacities of all those cultural operators who carry out theatrical activities in prison, in particular through learning and exchange of knowledge

– Creation and production of theatre performances that address a common theme

– To train the professional profile of the theatre operator, to be considered not only as a theatre director but also as a professional with multidisciplinary skills, linked primarily to the artistic field but also to the legal, organisational and social one.

– To allow and promote the circulation of artists and theatre operators outside the prison itself

– Improving the prison conditions of prisoners undergoing a process of actor training

– Address and spread the theme of prisons, giving it international resonance, through the theater

– Improve public interest by enabling the public to enter prison to attend performances and participate in related activities

– To improve the interest of the public opinion through the information and dissemination of knowledge concerning theatrical activities in prisons

Actions

The main activities of the project consist of:

– transnational mobility

– transnational training activities for theatre professionals, actors/prisoners, theatre operators

– production and staging of theatre performances with a common theme centred on the legacy and transmission of knowledge and emotions between generations

– development of the public in prison theatre, which is still limited due to institutional obstacles and prejudices

– involvement of active spectators

– IT tools for public interaction

– meetings with prisoners and theatre operators

– Creation of an EU Prison Theatre Awareness Week to highlight the importance of this activity and put the public in touch with the prison system.

Results

The main expected results are:

– Creation of the professional profile of the theatre operator working in prisons providing him with specific and appropriate skills and competences, so as to implement prison theatre

– Promote the connection between the public (not only the theatre audience but the general public) and the prison because at the moment it is very difficult for ordinary people to get in touch with this institution.

– Positive effects on the prison as an institution and on the prisoners considering that the theatrical work will be implemented

– Better knowledge of the “outside” of the prison and the prisoners and not only for the related negative actions but also for cultural issues

– Improving the skills of theatre workers and prisoners

– Realization of shows

– Increasing and raising public awareness

– Enhancement of prison as a producer of cultural / social / philosophical content

– Increased visibility for prison theatre

– Increased opportunities for reintegration of detainees

Short description

The MoSaIC project is aimed at the fields of music and intangible cultural heritage, as it aims to involve young immigrants and European citizens, both professional and amateur musicians, in a path of mutual knowledge and collaboration, giving immigrants the opportunity to share their musical traditions and skills while exploring, at the same time, various music genres typically European (such as classical music, modern music, pop, jazz, choral music, etc..).

Music will be the vital centre of all the activities of the project, as it will be understood as a tool to allow young immigrants to spread their personal heritage, cultural heritage, as well as their social context of origin, and at the same time introduce them to the history of European music, building a common sense of belonging, through the creation of a mixed group of immigrant musicians and EU citizens and the development of a shared music piece, to be spread in all the partner countries of the project.

In this way, the intangible cultural heritage of young immigrants and the countries of origin of asylum seekers will be enhanced through its dissemination to a wider public and in particular to young students. The exchange of music and tradition between musicians will encourage the fusion of musical genres and the enrichment of intangible cultural heritage in terms of contamination and integration of diversity in an inclusive European musical and cultural scenario.

MoSaIC, involving four partners active in the promotion of music and culture, aims to promote the inclusion of young immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the host societies of the EU, through musical cooperation and co-creation.

Objectives

– To promote the artistic/creative expression of immigrant and European musicians and to encourage the participation of immigrants in the creation and diffusion of musical products and events;
– To change the perception of the immigrant in the common mentality of the people, offering to a wide public a different way to know better and reflect on issues such as migration, asylum, discrimination and prejudice against cultural diversity;
– Recognizing music as a universal communication language capable of transcending cultural boundaries;
– Strengthen the capacity and skills of cultural operators, music teachers, art directors to work with immigrants and to cooperate at transnational level;
– To create a new and shared European musical heritage belonging to the old and new European citizens;
– To improve training and teaching methodologies for young musicians in the field of classical and contemporary music.

Actions
The main activities of the project consist of:

– organization of training courses for mixed groups of musicians;
– organisation of concerts and public events at national level;
– workshops in schools, which will introduce students to the importance of music for mutual understanding and fusion of cultures;
– joint residence for artistic directors and musicians, whose final product will be the creation of a shared piece of music to be exhibited at the World Music Festival in Milan (IT);
– public events to attract a very wide audience, especially those formed by disadvantaged and/or under-represented groups.

Results
The main expected results are:

– Improving the capacity of artistic staff, cultural organisations, NGOs to cooperate at European level and increasing the internationalisation of careers;
– Spreading a multicultural approach to music education with the active involvement of mixed groups of immigrants and local people and improving the professional skills of cultural operators involved in music education and integration of immigrants;

POWER

Performances Of Wide Enrichment to Raise awareness on different abilities and promote integration

Programme and call

Creative Europe, CULTURE Sub-programme, Cultural cooperation projects – Call 2018

Short description

The POWER project was conceived by Coop. Nazareno (IT) and 3 partner organisations (GR, CZ, IE) to promote the transnational co-production of a play with disabled actors, as well as the mobility of artists; POWER aims to increase the skills and knowledge of operators who usually organise artistic activities for disabled people, in order to improve their preparation and their skills regarding good practices to be adopted. POWER will also improve the participation of young and old in theatrical activities, through actions of empowerment of the public in schools and through the organization of daytime replicas of performances specifically designed for them.

The general objective of the project is also to give greater visibility and resonance to theatrical performances and training activities that actively involve people with disabilities. POWER intends to enhance and promote as a true artistic expression this theatrical genre, which is difficult to find adequate visibility in traditional theatres and theatre seasons, and even more difficult to allow people with disabilities / actors to circulate in foreign countries to stage their performance.

At the same time the social impact of the project will be very significant, since disabled people will fight those stigmas and social prejudices that usually make them feel “less” able than “normal people”, thus increasing their self-esteem and feeling more included in the society where they live thanks to the support of specially trained operators. On the other hand, the social impact will be on the whole society, which will change the traditional perception towards disabled people.

Objectives

– To strengthen and improve the artistic skills of people with disabilities, in particular in the field/sector of entertainment, and to promote their transnational mobility;
– To improve the social integration of disabled people and migrants through theatre as a universal language and barrier-free tool;
– To raise public awareness of a theatrical genre interpreted by a different artistic group and to develop a new audience for this particular artistic genre;
– To increase the active engagement of young and old people in theatre events through training courses on artistic and social awareness at school and through daytime replicas of performances in the theatre or in nursing homes;
– To strengthen the skills and competences of operators working with disabled people, both in the artistic/creative and in the social field;
– To create a long-term collaboration between artistic groups and institutions working in the field of disability and other social issues at national and international level.

Actions

– Collection of personal stories in the context of immigration and disability
– Transnational art residencies for art directors to define/elaborate performances and workshops at local level in all countries to prepare performances
– Production of the show in the partner countries
– Elaboration and implementation of a transnational training course for theatre and disability operators
– Public development activities for schools, young and old

Results
The main expected results are:

> increase in the skills of theatre professionals and social workers on the methodologies to be adopted to involve disabled people in theatre

> Increased skills of disabled and migrant artists in the production and staging of a performance and increased capacity to cooperate at European level with colleagues and professionals in the sector.

> promotion of the social value of theatre activities and awareness of the potential offered by disability and diversity in general in the arts, as well as increased attention of the local community to new creative processes that promote inclusion

Short description

In recent years, photography proved to be an art capable of stimulating questions from observers about the world around them. Images are highly communicative, especially in contexts where people do not share the same linguistic or cultural background, and can be useful for bringing communities together and shaping people’s minds on different topics. Photography is a unique way of expressing ideas, perspectives and thoughts, so nowadays it can be seen as an active force capable of producing questions, opinions, feelings and desires without the need for words. Within RIO, 4 organisations active in the field of photography, each with different profiles, will be involved in a 24-month experiment aimed at reconstructing local identities through photographic language, in 4 European cities (Savignano sul Rubicone – IT, Copenhagen – DK, Zaragoza – ES, Amsterdam NL). Foreign professional photographers will interact deeply with local communities during festivals organized in partner countries (IT & DK ). This process will be further enriched by the adoption by each partner of good practices in the development of cultural strategies in the field of photography and will arouse the interest of a wider audience, enriching the programme of festivals, cultural and creative services and promotional campaigns.
